I would like to bring in a breeze of the Mediterranean to Sweden.
If you say mosaics in Sweden, many people immediately associate to the tacky handicraft mosaics from the fifties like ashtrays and table-mats.
In England and France for instance, the term mosaics will probably rather be associated with Roman marble mosaics, still preserved in most of the countries where the Romans have been. Or North-African palaces or mosques with entire walls and floors covered with arabesque mosaics.
My motives almost always emanate from the nature and the human being. It can be a portrait or a picture of the body, animals, plants or ornaments inspired by the nature. I also do abstract motives, where I let myself be inspired by the material itself, like the veining and nuances of a marble stone.
I use a lot of different materials like marble and other stones, Venetian glass and gold (so called smalto) from Murano, ceramic tiles and china. In part I use the same materials, tools and techniques as they did more than two thousand years ago.
I also do pictures for interior decoration of e.g. kitchens and bathrooms and decoration of gardens. In my work of interior decoration I make the design myself with my own patterns and pictures.
See some photos from my exhibition at Galleri Riddaren in Gamla Stan. The exhibition was a project within Year of Design Sweden 2005.
In June 2005 I exhibited one of my floor mosacis on Ulriksdal Flower Show on Ulriksdals palace.
Besides working with mosaics, I'm also a personal coach. Please have a look at one of my sites: www.gorancarlsson.com or www.carlssonzetterberg.se . I'm also a partner in Stockholm's most beautiful flower shop Bloomster Stockholm, www.bloomster.se .
